Director of Outreach and Education
National Asian Pacific Center on Aging
Seattle, WA

Ashley is a 2016 graduate of theASA Leadership Institute.

What drew you to the field of aging or gerontology?

Growing up in Hawaii, culturally, we're taught to respect our elders. I grew up surrounded by older adults, grandparents, older aunts and uncles, volunteers at my elementary school, and my volunteer experiences from a very young age.

What is your specialty or area of interest?

During my Masters program, I did extensive research on Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities, and the Village Concept. I've also had a number of years working with Home and Community Based Service delivery systems and the Aging and Disability Resource Centers.

How do ASA's resources and education help you with your work?

ASA's resources help me stay relevant and up to date with the current national trends in the field of aging. Being so far away from the continental U.S., I need to take advantage of all the resources available.
