For Families and Caregivers
For loved ones and caregivers, older-driver safety and wellness is a concern and may be a threatening concept, especially if they view the older driver as a hazard. Therefore, obtaining an objective evaluation of the older driver's needs and driving ability and evaluating the usefulness of driver rehabilitation are important steps in finding a solution. Early conversations about transportation planning before a driving crisis occurs will help ease the transition to alternative means of maintaining independence. Chapters 3 and 4 discuss counseling strategies in greater detail.
