This Round Table will concentrate on the challenges of serving diverse and isolated elders who experience health disparities and access to care challenges due to racial, sexual orientation or cultural status. It will explain the issue and offer both concern and successes in meeting the needs of communities.

Mary Killough

Ms Killough develops and assesses new market initiatives, and analyzes business opportunities for Gerda Homecare. 

She is former Deputy Director of the Illinois Department on Aging, serving 2.5 million older adults, and was responsible for formulating policy, and  implementating programs and services as well as maintaining effective working relationships with other state, federal and local units of government, Illinois General Assembly, labor unions and community organizations. 

Ms Killough received her law degree from Notre Dame.

An attending physician in Geriatrics at Hines VA hospital, Dr. Mahajan is a Fellow of American College of Physicians and Board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine.  Additionally, Dr Mahajan is a certified medical director, a certified physician advisor in utilization review and healthcare quality management and is certified in infection control and epidemiology. He is a nationally recognized speaker on value based care, utilization management, clinical documentation improvement, post-acute care and transitional care quality improvement.  

Dr. Mahajan is a staunch advocate for healthcare equity and has written book chapter on culturally effective care and health disparity.

Maria is statewide coordinator for the Illinois Pathways to Health referral system, leading implementation of the Take Charge of Your Health programs, and a Master Trainer in the Spanish culturally adapted Tomando Control de su Salud and Manejo Personal de Diabetes programs.

She represents AgeOptions as a member of the Cook County Department of Public Health’s Alliance for Health and Active Communities Strategy and Support Team; is a board member of Illinois Community Health and Aging Collaborative and a member of the Illinois Alliance to Prevent Obesity Clinical Workgroup, and a graduate of ASA's New Ventures in Leadership.

Ms Rice oversees an Illinois Division of Rehabilitative Services Home Services Program and the Ryan White Part A Medical Case Management program. An active member of the Aging Committee at HBH, she is overseeing a comprehensive health-focused aging needs assessment for the older Chicago LGBTQ communities.

Kelly is a member of the Chicago LGBTQ Aging Network, AIDS Foundation of Chicago Case Management Leadership Council, ASA Chicago Roundtable Planning Committee, and the ASA LAIN Council.
