In this workshop Judith-Kate Friedman will explore the role music can play in extending quality of life, communication and cognition for persons living with Alzheimer's disaes and other dementias, and their loved ones and care partners.  She will offer time-honored and and innovative techniques for using music to increase interactivity, social engagement, shared meaning and relationship building using research-based approaches that enhance vitality, creativity and dignity.  As a result of this course participants will take home new ways of using music for their own creativity and the well-being of their care partners.  They will receive practical tools and programming ideas for building friendships and relationships through song and using melody, narrative, rhythm, rhyme and movement to enhance communication across generations and cognitive difference.  They will be empowered to be 'musical instigators" bringing 'the medicine of music' to those who need it most.
