Aging and Long Term Care of Eastern Washington

What drew you to the field of aging or gerontology?
I worked with the mental health population prior to my transition to working with the aging community at our local area agency on aging (AAA). Through my time at the AAA, I have continued to be astounded by the resiliency and innovation of the older adults in my community. Being an advocate in the field of aging has provided me the opportunity to learn from the life experiences of others and work to foster change within our community. I enjoy advocating for and assisting in providing a voice to this valuable segment of our community.

What is your specialty or area of interest?
I am interested in increasing awareness of the mental health needs of the aging community and fostering communication within our current care system. Our AAA is currently organizing a conference to bring the medical and social service communities together in our region. The purpose of the conference is to call attention to the continued need for client centered care.

How do ASA's resources and education help you with your work?
Being a member of the inaugural class of the ASA's leadership academy provided me exposure to leading professionals in the field of aging. This esteemed group of presenters provided genuine insight into their professional journey and offered authentic recommendations for my professional development. I look forward to continued education in the years to come!
