Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults, fearful of being discriminated against, do not access aging services at the same rate as their heterosexual and non-transgender peers. And when they do, they often do not disclose their sexual orientation and/or transgender status to their providers, all of which leads to incomplete care and health disparities. SAGE (Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders), through its National Resource Center on LGBT Aging, has developed a national training effort to enhance providers’ cultural competence in working with LGBT populations and to disseminate information to consumers. In this webinar, Michael Adams, Executive Director, and Hilary Meyer, Director of National Programs, will discuss how SAGE has made measurable impacts in creating institutional changes with aging services providers on these issues and SAGE’s innovative plans to leverage available resources to scale up the training and consumer education program to have broad, culture-changing impact.
