This webinar delves into the critical issues surrounding these challenges in the aging community\, offering professionals in the field valuable insights to enhance their understanding and care strategies. \nParticipants will explore the distinctions and intersections between social isolation and loneliness\, understand the profound impacts of trauma on older adults\, and examine the emotional toll on family caregivers. Additionally\, the session will address mental health considerations for older adults and the professionals who work alongside them. \nParticipants in this webinar will be able to:\n\nDefine and distinguish between social isolation and loneliness and identify their causes and prevalence among older adults.\nRecognize the impact of winter weather on older adults.\nRecognize the types of trauma that affect older adults\, including connections to social isolation and loneliness.\nExamine the emotional and psychological toll of caregiving\, including the impact of intergenerational trauma on family dynamics.\nUnderstand mental health considerations for older adults and the professionals who provide their care.\n\nPresenters:\nMaureen Feldman\, MA\, directs the Social Isolation Impact Project at The Motion Picture & Television Fund\, and is founding chair of the Social Isolation Impact Coalition. She specializes in social connectivity\, technology\, and cross-generational mentorship\, and created Stay Connected: Communicating in the 21st Century\, a course to help older adults and others navigate modern technology. Feldman has presented widely on topics such as Combating Chronic Loneliness: Digital Literacy\, Social Media\, and the Aging Population and Social Isolation and Loneliness: Preparing for the Next Epidemic. And she has consulted for the Los Angeles Department of Public Health\, serving as Vice-Chair of the Los Angeles Collaborative for Healthy Active Children.
