Parkinson’s progression affects far more than movement—and care must evolve with it. This webinar will help professionals understand how changes in thinking, mood, swallowing, and mobility can affect safety, independence, and daily care. Attendees will gain practical approaches to reduce preventable complications, respond to changing needs, and support families throughout the care journey.
Participants in this webinar will be able to:
- Differentiate the motor, cognitive, mood, and swallowing changes associated with Parkinson’s progression.
- Recognize care needs related to freezing, falls, medication fluctuations, and other preventable complications.
- Apply person-centered strategies and resources to support individuals with Parkinson’s and their families.
Presenters:
Joan Gardner, RN, BSN, is the co-founder and co-director of the Parkinson’s Foundation’s Community Partners in Parkinson’s Care program, which educates staff working in senior living communities and home care agencies. She has specialized in Parkinson’s care for more than 30 years and previously served as the manager of Parkinson’s programs and nurse clinician at the Struthers Parkinson’s Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a Parkinson’s Foundation Center of Excellence. Gardner has co-authored numerous Parkinson’s resources and publications and serves on the International Movement Disorder Society’s Steering Committee on Interdisciplinary and Integrated Care in Parkinson’s.
Rose Wichmann, PT, is the co-founder and co-director of the Parkinson’s Foundation’s Community Partners in Parkinson’s Care program, which educates staff working in senior living communities and home care agencies. She is the former director of the Struthers Parkinson’s Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and has more than 35 years of experience as a physical therapist specializing in Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders. A frequent speaker on Parkinson’s care, Wichmann has co-authored several publications, including the American Academy of Neurology book Navigating Life with Parkinson’s Disease.
