As COVID-19 and its detrimental impact continues to spread, residents of assisted living and skilled care facilities are among the most affected. This ASA Chicagoland Roundtable will feature state and national perspectives on the pandemic’s impact within assisted living and skilled care facilities. Speakers will reflect on programmatic and policy responses to the public health emergency, considerations for balancing isolation with containment efforts as part of keeping residents “safe”, and how to reduce deaths moving forward.

Speakers will include:

  • Kelly Richards, State Long Term Care Ombudsman at State of Illinois, providing state-level insight
  • Karen Messer, President/CEO of LeadingAge Illinois, providing insight from a state industry perspective
  • Bill Benson, Principal of Health Benefits ABCs (and former Deputy Assistant Secretary for Aging at the Administration on Aging, and State Long-Term Care Ombudsman at the State of California), providing insight from a national ombudsman perspective
  • Ruth Katz, Senior Vice President, Policy at LeadingAge National, providing insight from a national industry perspective
  • R. Tamara Konetzka, PhD, Professor of Health Services Research at The University of Chicago Biological Sciences, providing insight from a research and policy perspective
