Description:

Join us for an enlightening session exploring the importance of intergenerational programming. Not only can these programs bring opportunities to older and younger participants to diminish ageism, but also they are an ideal means of providing older adults relief from isolation and loneliness.

Participants in this webinar will:

  • Learn the importance of bringing generations together.
  • Explore ways of creating programs and other means of bringing different ages together.
  • Understand how to share life lessons across generations.

Presenters:

Sky Bergman, professor emeritus of Photography and Video at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, creates films and projects that inspire intergenerational connections. Following her PBS documentary “Lives Well Lived,” sky’s recent book “Lives Well Lived—GENERATIONS” distills wisdom from the film, celebrating life’s essence across generations. Elly Katz is the founder and executive director of Sages & Seekers, a nonprofit with the mission to develop empathy while combating social isolation and ageism and building stronger community. Sages & Seekers’ 8-week intergenerational program brings generations together to destroy myths and stereotyping that keep people apart, and has changed the lives of thousands of older adults, as well as their young counterparts.

Ava Brennan is a fourth-year Global and Community Health (B.S.) and Education, Democracy, and Justice (B.A.) double major at UC Santa Cruz. In 2020 she joined Sages & Seekers and has since worked on five projects. Her interest stems from seeing how intergenerational interaction strengthened the community ties in her mom’s hometown, and she’s curious about how this and ageism can impact health outcomes within communities.
