Members of racially and ethnically diverse communities, the LGBTQ+ community, and those living with disabilities, face systemic and persistent inequities in healthcare that may result in end-of-life care that is inconsistent with their values and priorities. Unfortunately, data indicates that these historically underserved communities are less likely to have meaningful information about and access to: advance care planning, palliative care, pain management and hospice care. These individuals are also more likely to receive aggressive end-of-life care that does not increase, and may reduce, quality of life.

In this session, we will identify healthcare inequities (terminology, concepts, and data), share stories of patients living through these experiences, and discuss strategies to address these inequities on an individual and systemic scale.

Participants in this webinar will be able to:

  • Identify barriers to equitable end-of-life care for historically underserved communities.
  • Describe strategies for increasing information and improving access to hospice for diverse communities.
  • Access additional resources for continued learning.
