Adult guardianship often is misunderstood as a benign protective device for older adults and adults with disabilities. The issues that lead to guardianship often can be addressed via less restrictive alternatives that ensure adults maintain the dignity of independence and autonomy. This session will explain how guardianship works, potential pitfalls, and practical solutions to common problems.

Participants in this webinar will be able to:

  • Explain the legal framework for adult guardianship.
  • Recognize situations where guardianship may or may not be appropriate.
  • Identify alternatives to adult guardianship.
  • Implement strategies to protect independence and autonomy for older adults and adults with disabilities.
